Yngwie is of course on top. You should check him out with the Japanese Orchestra.
Oh yeah good job on the scores.
IbanezDaemon - August 15, 2009 12:08 PM (GMT)
Well done on the list ac/dc, great job mate. So Yngwie takes it. I'm slightly surprised at that. My money would have been on Jason Becker to come out tops.

very cool, and I couldn't have expected a better list, it turned out great
Schubert - September 2, 2009 09:02 AM (GMT)
You spelled Timo Tolkki with one K! That's not cool!

Buckethead? I've never listened to that guy. I can't take him seriously looking the way he does!

You should really check him out, he basically covers more genres of music than any other guitarist I've heard about. Avant-garde, jazz fusion, funk, instrumental rock, hard rock, progressive metal, heavy metal, experimental rock, funk metal, ambient, dark ambient, alternative metal and electronica :D
If you have ever heard of the late Shawn Lane, he was a very close friend of Buckethead.
A lot of people don't take him seriously, but people shouldn't judge his appearance, his music is incredible! :) Yes I am a huge fan! Obsessed really

I respect the KFC man for surely being technically adept, but I think his songwriting talents are non-existant.
buti - September 9, 2009 01:22 PM (GMT)
Hail Jason Becker !! He is awsome ,to bad that he can't play guitar anymore!!
Rusty_is_Cooley - December 17, 2009 11:49 PM (GMT)
I found something very interesting while looking into Theodore Ziras the other day. I found in his blogs on myspace that he was ranked by Guitar World Magazine as the 12th fastest shredder of all time. He's faster than Yngwie Malmsteen and Jason Becker. He clocked in 16 notes per second. Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, etc. clocked 15 notes per second. Chris Impellitteri, Tony MacAlpine, Michael Angelo Batio, Theodore Ziras, Rusty Cooley, and some other guys made 16 notes per second. It really surprised me that Tony MacAlpine made 16 notes per second, when Paul Gilbert, Jason Becker, Vinnie Moore, and Yngwie Malmsteen didn't. Here's the article. Apparently votes aren't everything, you know?

This is crazy. Muhammad sucimez isnt on there? You know, the guitarst from Necrophagist? He's pretty dam good neoclassical style player. And Alexi Laiho, the creator of my signature guitar in my hands 2 minutes ago is on the bottom, who also happends to be one of my favorite guitar players!
GRR!
malikshreds - January 3, 2010 10:28 PM (GMT)
You forgot Richie Kotzen.i know he doesn't do neo-classical anymore but on first album he did.
malikshreds - February 4, 2010 06:23 PM (GMT)
check out Matthew Mills and rate him. He lives close to my town and performed here before.
ilikeguitar - April 24, 2010 12:08 AM (GMT)

I disagree - the guys above him were the innovators. Sure Romeo is a great player, but I wouldn't say he is an innovator of the style compared to Yngwie, PG, Vinman,Tmac and Becker. He is following in their footsteps.

ImitationSHREDder - August 4, 2010 04:28 AM (GMT)
You missed Chris Broderick. That guy didn't just bring megadeth to a whole new level, i think he is in his own awesome world on the guitar. Check out some of his classical peices on the classical guitar. He dosen't masturbate in his free time he plays Bach.

The guy's probably not known enough; not many people have transcribed his stuff.
You could try picking it up by ear.
