Title: Composer Poll

IbanezDaemon - July 25, 2009 09:00 PM (GMT)
Who is your fave Classical Composer and why? I could only list 15 max here so I have listed one of those options as 'Other?' so if your fave is not on the list select other and state who it is.

At the minute I'm a massive Vivaldi fan. I'm pretty much basing all my practise these days learning pieces by him. My fave for years was J.S Bach and he for me still is the real 'Father of Music' but Vivaldi is floating my boat a bit more these days. ;)

I have to go with Franz Liszt. What an incredible pianist and even more so a composer. I know all the composers in that list, and I enjoy them all in some way, but right now Liszt is my favorite. Check out Hungarian Rhapsody No.2.

I went for "other" - that is Sibelius. Not suprising he is not in your poll as his work isn't really conducive to translating into rock geetar.

BTW ID it would be great to hear some of the Vivaldi stuff you've been working on. Any chance of you posting some up?

I'm gonna have to look into get some recording gear or software HK. At the mo I'm using Guitar=Line 6 Pod=Amp and that's it, no recording equipment whatsoever.

On the Vivaldi stuff I'm trying to work on playing it with as clean a sound as I can get. I wouldn't say have have got much of it to a level that I'm happy with either but I'm working on it. ;)

Paganini to me is the best. I love those slow, evil sounding melodies he does.

Man, his Violin Concerto kills me every time. What an insanely beautiful melody.

From the above list, I'll go with Bach, even though it's a close tie with Stravinsky. Depends on my mood really.

And I'd also add "Other" with Shostakovich. Or Schubert. But I'll stick with Bach today.

C. Berry

"Roll over Beethoven and tell Tschaikowsky the news."

Or Stravinsky.

Went for Paganini, but Vivaldi and Chopin come close second there.

I like Mozart better but Vivaldi is just as great.

Had to go with other because your list didn't have C Debussy. Debussy music can put me in a good mood no matter how bad a day I'm having! I know alot of you pick composers because their music transcribes well to guitar and is basically what neo-classical guitar is based around, and I guess if i'm looking for that vibe i'd pick another composer like Bach - Love Bach. But Debussy music when listened to with a set of nice headphones with your eyes closed and completely zoned is an experience you wont find with most composers, its so beautiful it's almost not of this earth I think. Maybe i'm going overboard but try it :)

Over all I had to go for Beethoven becuase of the sheer scale of his compositions. Although I agree with IbanezDaemon J S Bach & Vivaldi are amazing instrumentalists.

I spent a long time studying the life and works of paganini too, A lot of his work was banned in Vienna
music schoolks by none other than an ageing Antonio (I didnt really kill Mozart) Salieri. The reason was he didi not agree with some of the outrageous techniques needed to play some of the paganini pieces..
HUGE glissandos and such.

So no sweep picking in vienna guys if you dont wanna get banned. :D

I'm a sucker for romantic piano so my choice is Chopin, closely followed by
Rachmaninov. Ludwig Van B is the metaller amongst the classical greats in my view. Was his 5th symphony the first rock track? :P

Thinking about it, Grieg's Hall of the Mountain Kings is a pretty respectable bit of prog! B)

Maybe Mozart, but I also feel like changing my favourites from time to time.
Debussy is also my favourite sometimes, or Brahms: how can his music be such sad and relaxing at the same time?

malikshreds - May 1, 2010 04:54 PM (GMT)
I've been lately getting into Nancarrow. He's brilliant and one of the first virtuosos of the player piano.

Handel is my personal favourite...keyboard suite no. 7 in G minor is so good, I could actually masturbate to it. I love harpsichords so much.

Chopin is a close second though, probably my favourite pianist. Apparently, when he died, he had his heart cut out and sent back to Warsaw, so that even though he was buried in France, his heart will always be in Poland!

ImitationSHREDder - January 18, 2011 11:37 PM (GMT)
I can't say i know too many compositions but i have listened to Bach,Beethoven,Mozart, and a few of the other big names. But to me, I love Paganini and his Caprices. Vivaldi would come in second imo, and maybe LVB after that.

neoshredder - January 18, 2011 11:39 PM (GMT)
I would change my pick to Beethoven. He is the king imo.

There'll be a market for that on the internet somewhere dude XD

I gotta go for Vivaldi! The first movement from Summer and Winter from the Four Seasons are absolutely sublime! :D

Just when you thought all possible ideas for porn had been done, you come up with a new niche: “Harpsichord Porn” :D

I can't stop listening to Mozart's Requiem (Bernstein 1988 version!). It's so dark and haunting...
