The black metal is cool stuff, im just getting into it. I couldn't get into it before was too intense for me

Not into it. Too intense and dark for me as well. I like metal with some upbeat to it. Not all gloomy.

The thing i dislike about it, and the reason i don't listen to it, is that i usually find the production to be low quality so i can never make anything out.
*Based on limited listening experience, i haven't head much black metal tbh

I'm not really in to it either, I'm guessing that I find it a bit too dark. As for when it comes True Norwiegan Black Metal, I have to say I just think they're sick, well, atleast the things I've heard about the bigger bands within that sub-genre, like Gorgoroth and Mayhem.
At first I just thought they were silly, but when I heard about (for example) that the former Mayhem singer Varg Vikarnes stabbed a fellow band member 23 times in the face, neck and back, I started to get a bit creeped out.

I listen that music long time ago,i was really into that.
My fav was Gorgoroth,immortal,dimmu borgir...
But i never liked Cradle of filth

I'm pretty much opposite you Baroque in that aspect - Cradle of Filth was like the only band in the genre that had a song I kinda liked

The closest thing to Black metal that I listen to is Opeth. I don't really consider them Black metal, but some people list them as Progressive Black Metal.
MandolinShredder - July 21, 2009 10:16 PM (GMT)
Huh... I've never thought that Opeth have been considered to be Black metal - I'm actually a pretty big fan of them. I've always considered them to be 'Progressive Death Metal'.
What an enlightenment!

Well, I don't see any black metal influence in Opeth, apart from their first album whose songs were quite thin-like.

@MandolinSredder
I never like Dani's scream... :)

Firstly, let me say that I respect any form of metal, because if it's metal, its the result of people expressing their emotions towards destiny, life, the Universe, or what have you, through music.
That being said...
I don't listen to black metal as much, but I do occasionally(same for blackened death) etc...But I study it for the very reason of being able to oppose it.
I'm not a fan of the "dark power" of metal, I like more of the "divine power" stuff? Ya know?
I'm sure most people here know, it's about the concept of an "unstoppable force", colliding with an "immovable object".
I tend to focus on practicing the hell out of my theory and accuracy, not alone for the music and complexity, but for the concept that it represents.
I might be the only person on here who thinks this way, but I don't see much talk ever about it, and it's a very obvious concept expressed through metal play styles and sound.
MandolinShredder - July 24, 2009 08:34 PM (GMT)
Baroque: Yeah, it took me a while to adjust (not that I really did, obviously). But, I've seen other vocalists within the genre which have been less to my liking. ;)

I really liked Emperor's Wrath of the Tyrant album, and Dimmu Borgir's Alt Lyser Svunnet Hen is still a regular on my playlists. Overall Black Metal is kinda hard to sort through because there isn't one defined sound to it, but that's what's cool about it also. I guess I'm just waiting for one band to really knock my socks off, but it's 2009 now and it still hasn't happened.
I think goth/metal bands hit the mark with me a little better for me, like Moonspell's Wolfheart album, Cradle of Filth's Cruelty and the Beast album, and Blackshine's Soulless and Proud album. But listening to Venom's Black Metal requires a little imagination to really appreciate, so I'm glad the Scandinavian black metal bands kind of took the ball and ran with it in a different direction
