I'd like to post something long, but I'd rather be brief so you can clearly understand my opinion, which is a bit agressive.

Two ways of understanding music:

1. People who likes music and don't force or hide his preferences.

2. People who thinks about music as an excuse to boast, hate and attack (verbally) those who are not like him and his fellows. Also as an instrument to enter some social groups.

For exemple, when I hear some jazz musicians putting down rock music -or latin music-, I realize I am in front of people who maybe can play an instrument, but are not honest about music; not honest with themselves too: I conclude they must have self-steem problems or some stuff like that.

I hate those who put down an entire style, since I like pop songs, latin music, flamenco, blues, and mostly rock styles, and I do not hide my preferences. I don't like commercial songs, they're often similar and boring, but there's exceptions from time to time.

It's not about styles; styles are an abstraction, what you really hear is songs. The way people are not honest about his musical preferences in order to look "cool" or to join a social group, always surprises me and makes me laugh about them.

I was in a band that made a web page. I wanted to write there that my favourite singer is Camarón de la Isla. They didn't let me because he is not a rock singer but a gipsy, flamenco singer, and they thought people will make fun of it...! That was not only absolutely ridiculous, but also sad and deceiving...

I coulden't agree more man. The reason I love Power Metal and Neoclassical is because both stand for EVERYTHING that I am.

The reason I compose in these genres is because they really do stand for everything that I am. When I listen to bands like Dark Moor, Nightwish, Rhapsody of Fire, or Luca Turilli, it gives me hope to know there's other people out there that see and HEAR the things that I do.

I know that sounds corny, but I couldn't put it any better way.

Progress, Passion, Vision, and Complexity.
