Title: What was the 1st song you ever learned to play?

Atlas - April 2, 2009 01:45 PM (GMT)
Guys,

What was the 1st song you ever learned to play?

The 1st song I ever learned to play was Free Falling by Tom Petty. Rick ( my buddy and teacher ) told me I had to start with a very simple song. I was trying to get him to teach me Crazy Train, he told me he would but I needed to learn a few songs with basic cords to start with. I'll never forget that song. D G D G A. That A change was very hard to start with.

IbanezDaemon - April 2, 2009 02:40 PM (GMT)
The House of the Rising Sun by the Animals.

Hurricane Kid - April 2, 2009 02:50 PM (GMT)
The Batman theme tune. I still love it today.

KERPOWWWWWW!!!!!!!

Muramasa - April 7, 2009 10:38 PM (GMT)

I can't remember... surely it was "And I love her" of "The Beatles".
Anyway first I learnt parts of different songs; I still do that often.

green day lol

Part of "Who Are You" by The Who, i think it was just the chorus. My guitar teacher at the time never gave me full songs but gave me bits of different songs. The first song i learnt to play all the way through was probably James Bond lol.

The first song I ever learned (not the fast solo parts or the 200bpm riffs ) was Metallica's version of "Am I Evil?" from my friends tab book. I would probably not be playing metal if I didn't learn how to play those guitar parts on keyboard

green day lol

This. Well, a mix of 'American Idiot' and 'Appetite for Destruction'.
Bit strange when I look back and see what directions my musical tastes have developed towards.

Edit: Totally lost the point of the thread >.<
Breaking The Law - Judas Priest. Still as badass now as it was back then.

One - Metallica -= and not the whole song either just the intro but it was by ear so I got hooked and fast :) about a month later I picked out (When The Children Cry) White Lion everything but solo,., I miss the late 80's early 90's :(

Steve5513 - May 4, 2009 03:23 PM (GMT)
I've just remembered!

It wasn't James Bond or Who Are You!

I remember the day i got my first guitar, i sat down with the album Rising Force by Malmsteen and tabbed out the whole of Far Beyond The Sun in the space of an hour and learnt to play it in half the time.

Noone ever beleives me....

Maybe some of you remember the old CASIO keyboards (PT-1, PT-80, PT100, etc). You could learn some songs by the lights which any key had, and also be rated! Very challenging for a kid.
My first song was "When the Saints go Marching In".

Last week I plugged an old PT-88 and it still works!! It was bought 18 or 20 years ago, so I didn't expected that. Playing some songs was really like a time travel...

Stradivari - July 12, 2009 08:26 PM (GMT)
Black Sabbath - Paranoid ...with a few changes in the solo. ;)

Well I wasn't that good back then so I skipped some notes at the faster parts.

So first song you ever learned was crazy train? That's pretty good considering that the tempo is something like 140bpm and there is sixteenth triplets tapped and played legato. Also regular sixteenth notes played tremolo. I never could have done that when I got my first guitar.

First song I ever learned was Iron man B)

shred'til'death - September 16, 2009 03:07 PM (GMT)
hmmm thinkin about it, i think that it was some song called 'saltwater' that we had to learn in grade 8 music... but since that was before i got into guitar, I think that the first song that I learnt (when I wanted to start learning guitar) would have been 'Times Like These' by the Foo Fighters XD

Benzo - September 17, 2009 09:13 AM (GMT)
Smells Like Teen Spirit haha. That and Smoke on the Water like everyone else.

FloralJem77 - September 18, 2009 12:01 PM (GMT)

Iron man lol

malikshreds - January 13, 2010 01:25 AM (GMT)
I think it was Metallica. I was heavily into them when I started playing guitar and my former- guitar teacher (I got a new guitar teacher today, someone who knows who Jason Becker is, which is great.) liked them too.
My first solo was Master Of Puppets.
