something I've noticed lately.... almost every single great shredder has long hair, or did at one point.

and all the new ones still do also! george bellas, jeff loomis... etc.

why do you think this is? and how many of you guys have long shred-tastic hair?

haha funny yes is true, is a cliche among shredders and headbangers, i have long hair too, since i was a heavy metal teenager,
but has nothing to do with music obviously

I find it more interesting that so many of the old shredders cut their hair at some point. Figures because it's WAY easier to take care of short hair. I should know, I've grown long hair in junior high and cut it in high school. Gonna grow my hair long at some point again, though.

I'm growing my hair back out by personal choice...I like long hair....not to make a fashion statement or any other...if people dig it, great...if not, well, blow me :lol:

I had long hair in the 80's and early 90's...spent a LONG time in the US Marine's....now that I'm retired, I'm growing it back out....I always hated the "Chia Pet" look :lol:

Ha! Ha! I used to have very long hair. I grew it from I was 16 to I was 29. I got it cut 'cos I got a job with an American Computer Company and I worked in the cleanroom dept where you have to wear all that protective gear as everyting has to be immaculate. It was a pain to have long hair wearing a full body suit, hood, goggles etc so I got my hair cut. I'll post a pic if I can get one uploaded of myself with long hair when I was 21 or so. Get ready for a laugh guys!

Yeah I had the long hair too. Unfortunately most pics of mine from that time are with an ex girlfriend so I've only got a few.

well SOME, very little though. the down to earth girls usually dont mind it. but at my school, the hot ones would say "ew" and never look again hahah.

my hair isn't that long now :( but I'm not gonna cut it for another 5-7 years or so.

I have hair about an inch or so past my shoulders, i'm definately gonna grow it to just past my chest.

Actually, I think they used to cut all the peeps' hair but nowadays it's probably optional. However, I don't wanna grow my hair before the service because I would cut it anyway when my service begins - I don't want to roam around the forests or whatever with long hair getting stuck everywhere.

I'm some 194 cm tall, using a converter that's 6.3648293963194 feet. Although I don't think that many Scandinavian people are tall, there admittedly is a lot of people over 6 ft. I really know of only guy that goes to the school I do and is taller than me, at 203 cm (6.660104986870301 ft) if I remember correctly.

i think its mainly rebellion? its been around as long as there's been music looked down upon, i mean Lynyrd Skynyrd's very name is rooted in rebellion due to the fact that they rebelled against the school dress code and particularly Leonard Skinner, a gym teacher at the school by having über long hair. I myself wear mine long not only as a form of rebellion against whats mainstream, but also as what i view as a badge of the headbanger, as well as simply to show my respect to shredders before me with the trademark hair

Talking about school, I have the longest hair out of the group I hang out with and It's pretty much 50/50 boy and girls so I guess it's a plus lol.

Most girls in my school love my hair and one of 'em even strokes it on occasion.

When I was growing up and in my teens/early 20's long hair was very much in vogue for guys and chicks dug it big time! I'm not sure about today though as my hair has been short for about 10 yrs now but it's important to remember not to bow down to trends and be yourself. If I was 16 I'd be growing my hair to my waist for sure. I always thought that the sort of girls who liked long hair in guys i.e rock chicks were far better looking and cooler to hang out with than the fashion conscious 'in crowd' anyway. ;)

chicks dig my hair man, and even if some don't, they're the kinda chicks that listen 2 that bullshit music, and I don't want them chicks anyway haha.

This is a funny tread. I like long hair too, even in the face (well, sometimes). I made lots of posts here in such a bad english... Now you can see the face of such an ignorant one! (This was early this morning).

I have thick hair, so it grows out slow and thick, which might look good in the future, but its guna take me a long while. I've been growing it for the past 5 months and its not long enough yet, could take some time.


I do it to represent metal, power metal and neoclassical specificly. :P
