Title: Exotic Scale

IbanezDaemon - January 18, 2009 04:20 PM (GMT)
I've been using this scale a lot lately so I thought I'd post an example of it. Hungarian Gypsy/Persian. Very Eastern sounding. I've posted it here in A at the open postion.

E|------------------------------0-1-4-5-----------------------------
B|--------------------------2-3-----------------------------------
G|-------------------1-2-3-----------------------------------------
D|-------------0-2-3------------------------------------------------
A|-------0-1-4------------------------------------------------------
E|-0-1-4-------------------------------------------------------------

1,b2,3,4 5,b6,7

That's an exotic sounding scale for sure, I incorporated it into a practice session today and it was a lot of fun to use. Thanks!

I was just going over that in my mind ( no guitar ) ... that's almost a " blues " or pentotonic but half steps where whole steps would be. Trying to remember where I saw that played before...Shawn Lane perhaps.

edit...the keyboard ending to yngwie suite opus whatever ( first song side 2 Rising force , lol ) ...must use a scale pattern similar to this. almost chromatic at times.

Hello. I am new here. I hope I'd learn some things and share the little I know.

This is an intresting Japanese scale I found recently:

1 -2 - b3 - 5 - b6
(A - B - C - E - F)

Its name is YONA NUKI, and as you see is a pentatonic.
It's also known as Hirajoshi, but in fact Hirajoshi is not a scale but a "koto"
tunning.
You can also add a b7 (G) when ascending.
It's not difficult to play, and you can try its modes too. I like specially the 2nd mode:

1 - b2 - 4 - b5 - b7
