Title: Film/Video game soundtracks
Steve5513 - January 11, 2009 01:27 PM (GMT)
Since films and video games often have a decent classical score i was wondering if anyone here has any favourites?
For games i would have to say shadow of the colossus, the game has you roaming around what is essentially a wasteland fighting giant colossus creatures for an ancient god so that he will ressurect the characters loved one, heres a piece from that game, the game itself is amazing and all the landscapes are beatiful and everything is amazingly designed but the score really takes it to another level:

Nobuo Uematsu has composed a lot of awesome stuff. Especially his Final Fantasy soundtracks are one of my favorites.
EDIT: Here's one obvious example of his classically influenced works. Only if the sounds were better, I would really classify this piece as neoclassical metal.
Everyone favorite: Still More Fighting from Final Fantasy VII.

I have FF7 and that piece is actually very close to neo-classical your right.
I also like Ennio Morricones western movie soundtracks but then again, who doesn't?

Yeah Morricone's music is excellent. Obviuosly I'm gonna list Amadeus. There is a great film about a fallen Classical pianist called Shine which is excellent. Other scores are Picnic at Hanging Rock, Southern Comfort (Ry Cooder) and The Magic Bow which is about the life of Paganini.

The sound track to 'Gladiator' is one that I have listened to in te past. I've also got the 'Lord of the Rings' sound tracks, which I really like.

Yeah I like that Gladiator theme music. I first heard my g'friend playing it. I think a girl called Lisa Gerard sings on that. Very atmospheric!

Diablo 2 music is epic... infact most blizzard games have extremely good music.
Lawrence of Arabia, Lord of the Rings, every movie where John Williams composed for it... there are so many movies with good soundtracks

I liked the Phascination Phase track best, actually reminded me of Beethovens Moonlight sonata a little.
