Title: Whoo hooo...finally hit one of my goals!!
VACharvel - January 7, 2009 03:18 AM (GMT)
Some of you here are much better than I am now...that's cool...I've been working my ass off since August to build myself back up...
When I re-started, doing 16ths at 100 was a challenge...but I devised my system of practice and routine and drum machine and worked towards my small goals I set...that is 10 notes per second...pretty quick...and hearing each note distinctily, and more importantly, the "space" between the notes...
Today..I finally broke the sextuplets at 100 BPM's benchmark and goal I set for myself...3 notes per string on 2 adjacant strings...I'm psyched...and I played along with Ozzy's No More Tears the final sextuplets prior to the 32nd note hammer/pulls cleanly....I'm stoked!!
Now I have to work for 110 lol....

Nice one mate! You're well on the way. Keep it up and good luck!! :)

My goal is to be able to do the final flurry of notes at the end of Jake E Lee's Bark at the Moon cleanly by late Spring/Early summer....a whopping 15 notes per second cleanly....wow...Jake could pick....I might not get there in that time frame....that's picking up an additional 5 notes per seconc....but it's a goal....

Yeah that's one of my fave solos. I assume you are talking about the solo at the end of the song? You'll nail that no probs. :)

That's Great progress VA - I admire your systematic approach. Keep it up man!
VACharvel - January 7, 2009 01:00 PM (GMT)
I will do this lol...oh yes...I will become proficient again....
I'm having fun...that's the important thing to me, and I'm improving...so my system does work..it's just slow...but that's not necessarilyy a bad thing...I have time...
I just set little goals for myself that are realistic and work towards them...when I hit them, I re-evaluate and move on to the next goal...

No...the end of the main solo...not the ride-out at the very end of the song...if you think in "phrases", right after the ascending 16th notes on Bb, C, and D...it goes into the sextuplets ending of the high A

Got ya dude. I know where you're at now. :)
VACharvel - January 8, 2009 12:31 PM (GMT)
LOL...ummm, yeah lol...Jake is NO JOKE!!!!
I'm a LONG WAY's AWAY from there speed wise, but it's a goal...I figure if I can play that solo note-for-note all the way through without collapsing or having a stroke, I'm ready for nearly anything :ph43r:
I have my practice-binder with stats and progress mapped out...I know where I'm at, what I need to improve at, and where I'm wanting to go...so it's just a systematic approach to practice targeting specific areas....

It's sounds a like a great way to do it. Set yourself a target but don't be too hard on yourself if you don't get there. The effort and belief are what counts and having these will see you right. That's a tricky solo and definitely Jake's best IMO.

My wife tells me I'm entirely too intelligent for my own good lol...and dubbed me "the Professor of Utterly Useless Knowledge" :ph43r:
Can you believe that?? Oh, the horror
The method has been in refinement since about August when I really sat down to devise a plan to achieve my goals....the band is my ultimate driving force...I want to play in front of people again and do it loud and well...guitars in your face....classic rock and 80's metal....

Excellent mate. If I could turn back time as well I'd do it. Right back to my big hair days and pointy superstrats. I was seriously playing then. Great times!
