Title: Legato Wokout

CaptainD00M - December 6, 2008 06:25 PM (GMT)
Ok so i came to the rather hard descision that i was less than happy with my legato... well the hard part was more breaking it to my ego... dam ego being all egoic and not wanting to admit things...

Anyway i sourced a DVD from a Site that shall remain nameless that was done by a Neo-classically inspired shredder who shall also remian nameless... (i think i may have mentioned him a couple times but whatever... points for you if you peace it together)

anyway the point of this post is i was wondering if other people would also be intrested in one of the most benifical and PSYCOTIC legato workouts that has ever been compiled... to be fair they are all chromatic type exercises and its not an invention more a compilation (like the Mix tapes HK and Ibanez Deamon probably made for their girlfrends back in the 80's :P and if you dont know what a tape is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Cassette kids these days honestly... ) and what not...

Basically guys would you be intrested in me posting this either as a tab or PMing be for the PDF of the DVD (mods help me out here, i dont wanna get nailed and deffinatly dont want you all to get nailed so which is better) as i dig this like some ego destroying but ultimatly GOD making endevor and felt duty bound to share it with some like minded individuals.

Be warned if you have difficultyu streaching between certain fingers this will cause you MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF EGO DAMMAGE (not a bad thing as guitarists are a special breed of ego) But by the end of it for 6 months if you wondered how satch does the mystical potato head groove thing you will wonder no more.

Think on it and post replies, comments or PM me.

Peace
CD

I'm interested in getting my hands on this. I will be at my hideout, you can reach me there.

To get there you must go to the abandoned shack and head west 500 steps, you will see a small trap door. Knock three times and utter the sacred password, which is "Ni Peng and Kneeeeewom" and you will have reached my hideout. If you get to the dead tree, ye have gone too far.

EDIT: Seriously though, i am interested.

Oh yeah i know that place... its near the sewer entrance that i had to go down to find the wendego i was on a hunting mission to kill to save the villagers of Black Water park from, after i had gone on a mission to Hati to get Gofer dust to protect me from the hillbillies that used to live in the shack...

Saddam used to live there too right... you know till that whole awkward execution things...

Ok guys i will get transcribing. Should have it up in the next couple days and i will attach it as a word document... that way you can print it out and stuff.

Its not complex stuff just awkward shapes to do to a metronome and not particularly musical... but well worth the tidium.

Nice one CD. Looking forward to it. :)

Cool! Looking forward to seeing it. I've also been looking to improve my legato technique, but for some reason I can't seem to practice it to a metronome haha

CaptainD00M - December 8, 2008 06:45 PM (GMT)
Ok as promissed guys this is the firts half of the workout... if you practice it diligently it should keep you well busy till i get time to tab out the other half... trust me the other half will blow your mind. Anyway good practicing and good luck, i will post the finished word doc for anyone to download when its finished and tabbed fully.

Peace

Tuning:

Ok so not only are these fret position numbers they are also fingers. I’d suggest starting at maybe 60BPM on a metronome. I found my first two fingers coped really well but the others lacked fluidity but I’d say keep the BPM the same for all fingers for consistency.

Also if you find that the frets recommended in these exercises are too far apart for you to fret the notes properly at this moment in time then start higher up on the neck. Then move down when you can stretch more.

Also id suggests doing these up and down the neck from frets 1-12 at least so that you get used to hammering on, on different frets.

Half Step:

e|----------------------1-2-2-1--------------------------------------------------|
B|------------------1-2---------2-1----------------------------------------------|
G|--------------1-2-----------------2-1------------------------------------------|
D|----------1-2-------------------------2-1--------------------------------------|
A|------1-2---------------------------------2-1----------------------------------|
E|--1-2-----------------------------------------2-1------------------------------|

e|----------------------2-3-3-2--------------------------------------------------|
B|------------------2-3---------3-2----------------------------------------------|
G|--------------2-3-----------------3-2------------------------------------------|
D|----------2-3-------------------------3-2--------------------------------------|
A|------2-3---------------------------------3-2----------------------------------|
E|--2-3-----------------------------------------3-2------------------------------|

e|----------------------3-4-4-3--------------------------------------------------|
B|------------------3-4---------4-3----------------------------------------------|
G|--------------3-4-----------------4-3------------------------------------------|
D|----------3-4-------------------------4-3--------------------------------------|
A|------3-4---------------------------------4-3----------------------------------|
E|--3-4-----------------------------------------4-3------------------------------|

These are now fret position numbers not finger, please refer to finger combinations to maximise your practice and legato for all fingers. It requires patience and discipline, but if you want to rip you need to do the hard yards with the patience of Buddha. Good luck... just don’t hurt yourself.
