Title: Shredder Poll Part 2

IbanezDaemon - November 6, 2008 04:53 PM (GMT)
Following on fron the recent 'Favourite Shredder' poll here is a list of some guys that we should also give a mention to. Choose your fave from the list above and say why.

Seconds out! Round 2!!!

I'm gonna vote for Theodore Ziras. I acquired some of his material recently and I think it's some of the best playing I've heard since Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn album.

Acousolysis - November 6, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
I'm not gonna vote here at all, but Guthrie Govan is arguably the most technically proficient guitarist today.

Acousolysis - November 6, 2008 05:10 PM (GMT)
I should also add that I'm not really a fan of Guthrie's. I like his solo album, but his playing just lacks something.

Theodore Ziras also has outstanding technique, but I for the life of me can't get into his music. I honestly think his music is boring... his playing pretty much sounds like a lot of virtuoso-like exercises put together.

Steve5513 - November 6, 2008 05:50 PM (GMT)
I voted for Micheal Angelo.

I voted for Micheal Angelo.

I once bought the Nitro album O.F.R. without having heard the band before. I tell you I laughed my ASS off.

MAB's guitar tone was like an tin of angry bees. Jim Gillete sounded like the love child of Lee Marvin and Monserat Cabalier.

I admit that MAB is one hell of a shredder though.

PerpetualBurn - November 6, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
I gave my vote to John Petrucci.

Here you go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf_FySOVBGA&feature=related Bring back memories? I voted for Shawn Lane though but didn't see John Petrucci. Tough choice between those 2.

Maybe I was a bit harsh when I said that. I meant that I don't get the feeling listening to his playing like I get when I listen to the old shredders from Shrapnel. That pretty much applies to every guitarist nowadays, though.

Hey I know what you mean Acousolysis - I've got a big soft spot for those guys too. There is something about what those guys were doing at the time that can't be replicated somehow IMO.

IbanezDaemon - November 6, 2008 08:33 PM (GMT)
There's a guy who I really like but couldn't add as there is a 15 choice limit to polls but do any of you guys like or have heard of Ron Thal?

Acousolysis - November 6, 2008 08:44 PM (GMT)
I've heard of him but have never heard him.

IbanezDaemon - November 6, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
Ron Thal messing about just in this clip.

That's one trippy guitar.

Steve5513 - November 6, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
WOW!

I checked out that Nitro thing and that guitar tone does sound like crap lol, it reminds me of the totally AWESOME tone you get from one of those starter pack amps lol.

Acousolysis - November 6, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
Actually I just remember a guitarist who can write stuff that really speaks. Jeff Loomis. His solo debut is probably the best shredfest in a long time.

IbanezDaemon - November 12, 2008 10:02 AM (GMT)
I've read good reports about that Loomis album so I must get a copy soon.

Acousolysis - November 12, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
You really should, no... you MUST! I insist.

IbanezDaemon - November 12, 2008 02:44 PM (GMT)
LOL!!! I'll try to get a copy asap. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
