Title: Paganini on Guitar

PerpetualBurn - September 23, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
I was wondering if any of you guys can play any of Paganini's Caprices on the guitar? I can't play any of them, but I do enjoy listening to them frequently :P

I can play a bit of the beginning of caprice24 but then it just gets alittle too crazy in the middle. Although I havent played it in awhile, I'm thinking I should attempt it again. anyone else that can play the whole thing, it would be great if they can post it on here

I did his 24th Caprice for my Music A level exam piece when I was 18. I could play it pretty well but made a bit of a hash of it in the actual exam session. Oh well

Ill have to dig out the old manuscript and go over it again.

Wow that's very impressive! What was the exam for exactly? I don't really know much about studying music in college ;)

I learned a few of them back in the eighties from a a book buy Michael Fath who transcribed them for the guitar. Difficult! I still play No.5 which is the fave of a lot of rock players.

A levels are the standard college exams in th UK before you go to University. The music A level was mostly classical music theory, analysing extracts of music etc, with a practical exam at the end.

I had to play the caprice with a clean tone in the exam though - so it didn't sound very rock.

Na, he plays Mozarts Symphony No.24

I can play a bit of Moto Perpetuo by Paganini but i can't be bothered to learn the rest of it just yet because of how hard it is to memorize it.

I've played his 16th caprice (presto). It was already arranged for guitar, but I did some changes to it, in able to play it at higher tempo (the arranged tabulature had a recommended speed that was several BPMs' after the original speed, which is highly expainable - it's physicly impossible to play the piece on guitar as fast as on the violin!)

I feel a bit ground breaking, considering that I'm the only one that has mentioned his 16th caprice, haha! Just kidding, though. ;)
