Title: How long have you been playing?

IbanezDaemon - September 19, 2008 03:41 PM (GMT)
How long have you guys been playing guitar? Are you relatively new to the instrument or has it been a long time since you started?

acdc51502112 - September 19, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
4 years, 9 months, 1 week, 1 day

Hurricane Kid - September 19, 2008 04:23 PM (GMT)
Judging by your youtube vids acdc51502112 you are doing great for the length of time you have been playing, which isn't a really short time but not too long either.

I myself have been playing for about 22 years now. But unfortunately that hasn't all been consistent dedicated practice, which is why I ain't half as good as I could or should be.

Hopefully I'll get this instrumental I'm working on finished soon so you guys can let me know if the last 22 years have been well spent or not!

IbanezDaemon - September 19, 2008 04:25 PM (GMT)
Coming up on 24 years for me guys. It' been a long and eventful journey! :)

We must have started playing at pretty much the same age then ID. Cool!

IbanezDaemon - September 19, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
If my maths are correct, yeah that would :) be right mate!

IbanezDaemon - September 19, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
I'm still trying to adjust to your new avatar ac/dc. I might change mine soon and cause even more turmoil! :P

Steve5513 - September 20, 2008 09:47 AM (GMT)
1 Year, 9 Days and 8 hours 15 minutes is when i had my first lesson.

I know this because i was cleaning my room and found the little pice of paper i wrote the date for my first guitar lesson on so i wouldn't forget.

Got my first guitar a couple months before that though but never played it 'coz i didn't know what to do or where to start.

Rick - September 20, 2008 11:00 AM (GMT)
Got my first unplayable Encore Strat for my 15th Bday, turning 18 next month.
Hopefully I can beg enough cash off the family to buy a Jackson DK2S I've got my eye on. Finding a job is hard in college :(

IbanezDaemon - September 20, 2008 11:42 AM (GMT)
How about blowing your student loan to finance the guitar Rick? You know it's worth it. BtW I like that Jackson you mentioned, nice! ;)

Rick - September 20, 2008 12:07 PM (GMT)
I live in England :P
Luckily though, one of my tutors at college owns a fantastic local music store (where I saw and tried the Jackson) so we get a bit of a discount.

Plus you can pay 20% of the price up front and have them store it away for 6 months until you can pay it all off, interest free.

IbanezDaemon - September 20, 2008 01:04 PM (GMT)
That's very sporting of him and will give you time to raise some funds.

I came across this on ebay yesterday. Looks like an Ibanez RG550 to me. Apparently the seller got it a car boot sale. It's current bid is £50. Needs a bit of work though but if somebody out there is looking for a bargain this has potential.

acdc51502112 - November 12, 2008 09:26 PM (GMT)
well your theory is defiantly not lacking.

Orzandotl - November 13, 2008 07:55 AM (GMT)
i have played for about 1 year.... a few lessons before that.... but that doesn't really count because i barely had them...

ImitationSHREDder - July 30, 2010 06:09 PM (GMT)
11 months and some change. I'm pretty proud of where I am in my playing all self taught and internent for me. Best day of my life was the day after my 16 B-day when I returned the orginal Ibanez Artcore my parents got me and picked up an Ibanez RG 350EX.

Daniel962 - August 3, 2010 04:44 PM (GMT)

Welcome to the site. :D If you have questions or need help with the techniques you mentioned you can open up threads in the relevant section and I'm sure the members here will be glad to help you out.

Thanks!!

21 years or so. I had 3 or 4 fairly long periods without having a guitar myself though, in my first 14 years.

Welcome to the site Coffinweed!!!! :D Hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks! :D I enjoy reading this section and have been turned on to a few artists in the other sections, I usually just check in, in here though!

Now that I registered you may see me somewhat frequently to comment! This section needs more action and there are plenty of topics to discuss, tips and tricks to coax from people!

Most guitar related sites are just full of ego's, everybody is rude to each other, esp. the shred haters who don't realize most shredders are well rounded musician who can smoke them in their own style as well as shred.

This site is cool and has at least a good handful well trained musicians.

Agreed Mate. We are only a small site but have dedicated members and no flaming whatsoever exists or has ever taken place on this forum. I'm sure you'll find we are a friendly bunch.

I also agree with what you said about other guitar sites, lots of trolls/flamers/noobs who seem to have chips on their shoulders. Never was my style dude.

BTW If you like you can open an introduction thread about yourself, where you are from, influences, guitars/gear that you own, anything really dude. Might give us a chance to get to know you even quicker. Merely a suggestion and entirely up to you!! :)

That's ok, I'm honest and reveal allot about myself in just about every post I write. I couldn't help others and would be wasting time posting if I weren't honest about my own flaws and mistakes. An about me thread would only be me trying to make myself look good, even though I'm nothing more than a ghost in the machine with a made-up name to anyone out there.

I couldn't compile a list of influences if I tried, there are just too many and I don't (well, try not to) limit myself. I also don't want to waste time defending my own opinions of who I think the best musicians are, nothing good ever comes out of that!

The same goes for gear, lets just say I have a modest budget set-up and I'm not a gear slut, I just make the best out of what I have, I get good results, wish I had the money for better though!

Did the Jaws captain just die? I don't watch TV anymore so I didn't hear of it.

and

Is Jason still alive? The official website hasn't been updated in years the last I checked. That reminds me, I have to re-collect the videos out there, I lost my collection with a hard drive problem, I'm slowly getting stuff back, as I realize what's missing.

Coffinweed - December 24, 2010 06:39 PM (GMT)
p.s. Oh, I just looked, The captain from Jaws, dead a loooong time now. never mind.

IbanezDaemon - December 25, 2010 12:50 AM (GMT)
Jason Becker has his own Forum now Coffinweed. A few of us guys from here are members there as well. Jason actively participates in the site and replies to any questions you have for him.

Here's a link for you:

Though the meme has reached far, far from being exclusive to that /b/oard now.

Coffinweed - December 26, 2010 05:11 PM (GMT)
Nah, this is the first time I used that one as a sig, I picked that up over a decade ago from a computer site: "all your bandwidth are belong to me" I thought it was funny and always wanted to steal it! back then, people from eastern languages, using translation software, would put a similar sentences in there posts all the time, it was a common translation. Never heard of b/roski

anyway, thanks for the welcome!

I bought my first bass in January 2006 (when I was 16), but mostly hung it on the wall to impress people who came over and I'd make excuses if anyone asked me to play :D it wasn't until 2007 when I met a guy who was a shit-hot guitar player who was into all the same music as me that I started really practicing seriously in order to be in a band with him. 2 weeks later we did a gig at the sixthform college we were both at and I just about managed to blag my way through "Kickstart my Heart" and "Bark at the Moon" by Motley Crue and Ozzy respectivly...Started taking it a lot more seriously after that!
