Description: Post your vids here

We've all seen the Malmsteen clones on youtube but which one is the biggest rip off in your opinion.

I'm gonna nominate this vid from Ark Storm guitarist Katsu Ohta. Check this out then post your clip here. Cheers!

I remember reading an interview with Yngwie in the late 80's in which he was accusing Vinnie Moore and Tony Macalpine of ripping him off.

Yeah shredmaster Joe is a pretty big Yngwie rip off. He has opened for Yngwie in the past. The good thing about Joe is he admits the Malmsteen influence and I have heard him refer to Yngwie in interviews as 'The Master'. I love his playing though and have all his material. Thanx for the link.

On the Yngwie interview Hurricane I read several like that where Yngwie was sounding off about being plagiarised. Did you know that legend has it that the song 'Liar' from his Trilogy album is supposed to be about Tony MacAlpine?

I came across this guy about a week ago on youtube. He's an English neoclassical player known as Brad H. Check him out performing a heavily Malmsteen influenced piece. I quite like this.

I'd have to say Yngwie himself. He repeats himself so much these days.

JL_Shredder - September 16, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
Paul Gilbert..........The song's called Y.R.O. guys! That was a joke. Paul normally doesn't sound like Yngwie at all. I'd say it depends on what you think constitutes a rip-off. Neoclassical metal has a very distinct sound, and, since he started the genre, technically, every one of us who play this music is ripping him off in a sense. I too would have to nominate Joe Stump. He doesn't seem to have much of his own style.

Thats is absolutely rediculous, Vinman's and T-Mac's styles are far from Yngwie's, the only similar thing is that they play within the same genre... which is by no means Yngwie's genre.

JL_Shredder - September 17, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know. That whole album is kickass!

Yeah man, I was just making sure everyone else knew because you didn't say what Y.R.O. actually meant in your post! Excellent album.

I thought you were ACDC when I posted, because you have the same avatar hahaa

hey newbie here...I'm gonna probably get heck for this but Yngwie is the biggest rip off artist. Ritchie Blackmore was doing that shit way before while Yngwie was in diapers. The only difference is Yngwie sped it up.

this isn't UG, we're not a bunch of 10 years olds trying to be assholes. We talk about the origins of Neo-Classical in this thread --> http://neoclassicalmetal.org/index.php?showtopic=317

with a reply like that, it looks like your the 10 year old asshole. Coming from a moderator like yourself, what kind of an example are YOU setting. In which part of my of my thread did it look like I was being the asshole mr smart moderator. I had a feeling joinging this site was gonna blow. You've just proved me right

acdc51502112 - September 18, 2008 11:01 AM (GMT)
I wasn't saying you were an asshole. When you said "I'm gonna probably get heck for this but" I was merely saying that we don't flame people like on UG. Sorry if I came off in a rude kind of way, but I was just trying to say that you are free to say your own opinions (unlike UG).

IbanezDaemon - September 18, 2008 12:17 PM (GMT)
Yeah you're picking ac/dc up wrong dude. His point was that you wouldn't have got grief for your opinion on this site. What you may have got is a constructive but respectful argument for or against your post unlike the lambasting which is common on the other site in question.

Maybe we won't hear from you again but I would say that you should (IMHO) forget about this misunderstanding cos that's all it was and keep contributing to the site. Thanx. :)

thanks Daemon

ok good that that is cleared up, and welcome dude!

IbanezDaemon - September 19, 2008 10:57 AM (GMT)
Devilman on your original post, I know where you're coming from on the Blackmore thing. There always were similarities, some of the stage poses that Yngwie does are from Ritchie's stage show. The white strat (although he was into Hendrix before Blackmore) and the Stygian attire. I agree some of Yngwie's compositions are very Rainbowesque in structure and passages. Jet to Jet from his Alcatraz days is a rip off of Spotlight Kid IMO. Then you have the collaborations with Bonnet and Turner. But when it comes to lead work I don't think if you sped up a Blackmore solo it would sound like Malmsteen. I can play a lot of Malmsteen and Blackmore stuff and there are big differences. I always thought Blackmore was a very messy lead player but don't get me wrong I do like his music and have all the Purple and Rainbow albums.

Check out this guy pulling off a big Blackmore impersonation.

Devilman if you get time can you post a bit about yourself and your fave players /bands in the 'Introduce yourself' category. Thanx man.

IbanezDaemon - September 19, 2008 12:47 PM (GMT)
Devilman if you do feel like making an introduction thread you can do it now in the General Talk section. Sorry 'bout that there has been a slight change as of late. :)

Oh, I do? haha. Well hey, "Trilogy" is amazing, one of my favorites anyway. I love your avatar too. I'd have to say that "Rising Force" is one of the best albums in history.
