Title: Vivian Campbell?

I love this guy, he's never mentioned. I've got an old Dio video, a Holy Diver concert, mid way through a song (I think it's Heaven and Hell) he rips into this amazingly cool solo. (Alas I can find no tabs for the Beethoven esque piece)

Admittedly when I look at his other stuff it's hardly neo classical, still i thought that was cool.

I like Vivian Campbell, especially his earlier stuff. A friend of my sister's is his cousin. Is the Dio video you have of their 'Monsters of Rock' set at Castle Donington by any chance? I think they played there in 1984.

Maybe Vivian uses the same solo in his sets so I think the Beethoven piece in Question then would be 'Fur Elise'. You could learn that without much difficulty then throw work on phrasing it like him. I'm pretty sure, as you have found, that tabs for it are incredibly difficult to get if any exist at all.

No, the video is simply called "Dio" and set somewhere in mainland Europe. Yes, Fur Elise is the peice, sorry should have mentioned.

...hmm good idea actually. :ph43r:

Yeah I like Vivian, he's underrated, but really quite good. He was more melodic than a lot of the guitarists that were around back then lol IMO anyways. Chris Broderick has some awesome eight-finger tapping he uses to play classical stuff, he's pretty damn awesome.

TBH, I am the odd man out, but I don't think Vivian is a very good guitarist. He is a very typical player and I find no riffs or unique solos, very very messy with bad technique IMHO.

You all like him from one album that he did... (please don't say you enjoy his stuff from other bands IE Late Def Leppard)... and that album is Holy Diver. Now I am sory to blow it but Vivian did not write the guitar on that album, Jake E. Lee did, as Jake was the guitarist for Dio, but before the album was recorded Vivian came in.

Jeez Devon I was unaware of the Jake E Lee thing, honestly that's the first I've ever heard of it. Ya learn something new every day. :)

Yeah I didn't know that either.....that kinda sucks a little.....oh well no big deal, Holy Diver is still a good album.

Seems to be a reoccuring theme in mr Campbell's career - remember the Whitesnake 1987 album - old Campbell and Vandenberg posing around on all the Videos - 'Still of the night' Etc. But it was John Sykes who played the guitar parts and did a good chunk of the songwriting.

I really liked that album actually. :P
