Title: So let's hear YOUR Neo-classical metal
Rick - August 9, 2008 04:38 PM (GMT)
I've noticed that some of you guys here are amazingly talented, so I thought that this thread would be a good place for everyone to share any original pieces they might have written.
True to the typical show-&-tell thread trend, I have absolutely nothing worth offering right now, but I don't have anything planned this weekend so I'm hoping to get at least one piece finished.

Looking forward to hearing any tracks! :D

Ok I’ll stick my neck out and be the first (gulp). I don’t have any “Neo-Classical compositions”, or anything like that recorded, but I do have these which is just some of me more or less goofing around (nothing special)…
--------------------------------
The RX forum has a couple of forum jams that we do throughout the year. Everyone submits a 40 sec solo, and it all gets mixed together on one big track. This was the first one I took part in. So here was my submission.
http://media.putfile.com/RX-Jam-by-LoQBTW this is played on "Glum", my Ibanez RG. I threw a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge, and a DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck. I have pretty much swapped out everything that can be swapped out on that guitar.
Here is one I did for another RX forum jam. It’s pretty short (just like the previous one). This one was a blues jam, so my playing on this was more about feel as opposed to technique. This was played on "Vicki" my Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster (How in da world can ya' not play on a strat for a blues jam?!?! :P ), and on my Crybaby 95Q (I highly suggest this pedal. Volume boost, adjustable range, springs back into the up position just like a Morley, and no switch. It activates the moment you touch it :) ).
http://media.putfile.com/RX-Blues-Jamoriginal-version-by-LoQThe backing track for this one is in C sharp minor which to be honest is a key I am not comfortable in. But there was something about the track that called to me, so I figured why not give it a shot and record myself playing over it. It’s not a perfect example of my playing but oh well.
It was played on Amelia (my Les Paul Custom), so I named it "Amelia Minor" (I know it is just me jamming over a backing track, but I had to name this mp3s something ;) )
http://media.putfile.com/Amelia-Minor-by-LoQAnyway, there you have it. Please be kind

The older jams would be buried pretty deep in the "Guitar" section. Pao is the one who always organizes the jams. Today he just announced a new fourm jam (#6), so if you want to take part in this one, go check out his thread (all the details you need are there ;) )

IbanezDaemon - August 15, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
Just checked out your playing LoQ, damn good man! That's a seriously good sound you're gettin' there.
LoQ - August 15, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
Wow thanks guys. I am truely flattered :)
Devon8822 - August 21, 2008 09:35 PM (GMT)
Nice shredding LoQ! Your "finger" tone, really reminds me of Al Di Meola, one of my favs, especially your vibrato in Amelia Minor.
LoQ - August 22, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
Thanks Devon! That is quite a compliment. :D
Although I have to admit (embarrassingly :() that I haven’t really listened to Al Di Meola. I guess I need to rectify this gross error immediately by giving him a good listen. I’m planning on hitting some used cd stores this weekend, so what CD's of his do you recommend?
BTW as mentioned in my previous post the RX Forum is doing another jam this month. So here is my entry that I submitted a couple of days ago. It was played on my new/old 1987 BC Rich ST-III that I found on eBay earlier this year. Hopefully you guys approve  ...

1. Al Di Meola-Elegant Gypsy
2. John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, and Paco De Lucia-Friday Night in San Francisco
3. Al Di Meola-Casino

I really like your tone on that last one LoQ! What hardware/software are you using to record? Or is it that you've just got a great sounding guitar!?!

Thank you Hurricane. :)
Regarding the tone: It's just me, my BC Rich, and my Line 6 Spider II combo amp plugged into my Guitar Port (which of course is plugged into my pc ;) ). I did copy the solo track and layered it on top of the other with it being just slightly off from the other track to give it that out of phase sound. But besides that little bit of tweaking, it's just the onboard distortion and a little bit of onboard delay that comes with Spider II. B)

K what I noticed from your improvs is that you're just playing notes. You're not really playing with the track.
Steve5513 - September 8, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
I'd like to post a song but have no idea how. Can someone tell me how to do it?
baroque - September 8, 2008 11:03 PM (GMT)

IbanezDaemon - September 9, 2008 01:33 PM (GMT)
Steve you can try uploading a video of your playing on youtube then post the link here.
Steve5513 - September 9, 2008 04:26 PM (GMT)
That would probably be best since they tell you how to do that on youtubes site, just gotta find someone to lend me a video camera.

Elegant Gypsy and Casino are the best (I have them on record :) )

http://www.mikseri.net/music/play.php?id=343967&type=dlHere's a little something. Put together very fast some time ago. I compose a lot of metal music yet seldom neo-classical metal even though it's my favourite genre. This clip was actually made just to test around a little so never mind the bad sound quality.
IbanezDaemon - September 30, 2008 10:50 AM (GMT)
Some cool and interesting material there dude! I take it you are from Finland?

Wow! Really dig those tracks - particularly the second one on there. I could be wrong, but is Marty Friedman an influence of yours Whyrendog?
Whyrendog - October 16, 2008 04:12 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I pretty much can't play without doing a Marty style bend any more. When I do it seems boring. He has so much to learn about his style too so he is sort of an influence that isn't just a passing trend. I have another tune in the upbeat "Music For Speeding" kind of vibe. It was used in a video (selected parts) but as a song I don't post it around because you realize after a while that the same beat is used for the whole thing lol.
Thank you and hope to see some others because I've heard some mind blowing stuff on the internet, GuitarWar, etc. There aren't a lot of just Neoclassical songs and players but everyone has tried it and done their own thing.
baroque - October 18, 2008 12:53 PM (GMT)
Here's a song that i played...Its "The godfather" theme,but in my stile :)
Soon will be more songs.

Excellent stuff Baroque. Very well played indeed! Loved it. You are really clean on those fast runs which is important. Great sound as well. :)
Hurricane Kid - October 18, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
That was very impressive Baroque - some great Yngwie-esque shredding and a cool arrangment. The frequent nights on the beer obviously havent dulled your abilities at all! ;)
You might be interested in another take on The Godfather theme by a band called Fantomas (featuring Mike Patton ex Faith No More & Dave Lombardo ex Slayer). It's a bit extreme, but I like it!

Finally got round to finishing the instrumental track I have been working on. Not entirely pleased with the playing in some parts, but I'm happy with the general flow of the track.
Hope you guys like it. Turn it up loud! :D
