Title: No T-Mac or VinMan?
Description: Surely some mistake!

IbanezDaemon - August 3, 2008 03:36 PM (GMT)
On purchasing Guitar World's recent edition that included the article '50 fastest guitarists of all time' I was amazed to see that Tony MacAlpine and Vinnie Moore did not make it into the top 50. They did however receive 'honorary mentions'.

Has anyone else seen this copy?

Yeah it is ridiculous. Popularity always comes into it and Neo-Classical Metal was never that big. They go for the players with more popular styles. Even than, I find it hard to believe there are 50 guitarist that are bigger than those 2 and also have speed.

No one is ever happy with these lists. They are basically popularity contests. Granted this list was intended to be "slightly" more in reality because it was supposed to be based on some kind of measureable fact (IE:Speed) as opposed to opinion. But clearly they didn't seem to get this one right either and in the end excluded some real contenders for the sake of popularity (as in the case of Tony MacAlpine and Vinnie Moore).

I just take these lists with a grain of salt (if I even take them at all) ;)

ya these lists are always terrible, and as LoQ said, its always a popularity contest.

Could someone post the list, please?
I'm not sure if GW is one of the magazines we get around here.

well at least it wasn't 100% fail, there are some reasonable picks.

The fact that Mr. Gates is on that list makes it pure failure, no matter what other names are there <_<

A certain Rusty Cooley didn't get a mention either! :(

Devon8822 - August 13, 2008 03:11 PM (GMT)
I was going to immediately say WHAT NO, PACO DE LUCIA!? but he was on the list, he is insane, no pick...

Totally agree with you guys on these lists, I have never been a fan of them. Rolling Stones are the worst "laughs" Apparently the Ramones guitarist is in the top 5 guitarists of all time... Tell that to Andres Segovia.

IbanezDaemon - August 15, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
LOL!!! Yeah Johnny Ramone vs Andres Segovia. I know who my moneys on.
