Title: Joey Tafolla

Is anybody familiar with this guy? His playing is excellent, especially the early stuff with his first album "Out of the Sun" being his most "neo-classical" one.

Wow, I am digging his playing style. Thanks for turning me on to him! :)

I bought this album when it first came out in 1987 I think. A great album and one I still listen to a lot. Joey took lessons from Paul Gilbert and in fact Paul's guests on two tracks on this album. Check out Joey's stuff with the band Jag Panzer which features some great guitar work.

he's such a weird sounding guy, i can't explain it lol and his playing is out of this world.

Devon8822 - July 8, 2008 06:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I am starting to use a lot of slides after listening to him :lol:

I really like the sound, they give a really good groove to your phrasing.

Not bad. Out of the Sun is my favorite of his obviously since it is Neo-Classical and sounds like Vinnie Moore/Tony MacAlpine. ;)

hey! i really love that song, anyone got guitar pro/tab for "open house"?

Devon8822 - July 11, 2008 05:13 PM (GMT)
I looked, and unfortunately I couldn't find any tabs for any Tafolla tunes. "Open House" is not even released on an album. I tried to find it but I couldn't. :(

I remember I bought "Out of the Sun" when that came out just because Tony MacAlpine played keyboard on it. Turns out Tafolla's songs were about as good as Vinnie Moore's... so I played that tape a lot. Never heard him after that though.

i just found out that t-mac wrote all songs on joeys album out of the sun! :o i also believe that t-mac produced the album and played keyboard n some guitar solos with paul gilbert on some tracks. i have tonys old demo from -84 n all songs are there!

http://www.guitar9.com/outofthesun.html and i have t-macs old demo which includes all songs with poor quality except the title track out of the sun. so out of the sun is kinda more a macapline album rather than a tafolla album :P

tonys demo:

# (1984) Demo

* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 01 - Redline
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 02 - The summon
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 03 - Nine tommorrows
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 04 - Untitled_1
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 05 - Eternitys end
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 06 - Dragon fly
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 07 - Untitled_2
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 08 - Zero hour
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 09 - Stalingrad
* tony macalpine - demo '84 - 10 - Under siege

OMG and I have T-Macs demo! I didn't even realize! wow, I am amazed + laughing. T-Mac truly is amazing.

Well..this guy's name sounded familiar to me...I went and dug through my dad's "vintage" collection and I found some treasures!
Here's what I found! (all on cassette)

Joey Tafolla-Infra Blue and Out of the Sun

Vinnie Moore-Meltdown and Time Odyssey

Yngwie J. Malmsteen- Rising Force, Marching out and Trilogy

Marty Friedman -Dragon's Kiss

Racer X with Paul Gilbert- Street Lethal and Second Heat

Ok now on the Joey Tafolla tapes it credits him as the writer of all the songs on Out of the Sun....weird???

Also has anyone heard of Dave Sharman?? He does some really crazy tapping stuff. His album is simply titled 1990.

IbanezDaemon - August 22, 2008 08:23 PM (GMT)
Ah! There's some pretty amazing material on those cassettes.

I used to have that Dave Sharman cassette actually. I think he's a British guitarist. I'm pretty sure that material is next to impossible to get now so that's quite a gem you've got there.

I think I've still got Dave Sharman's '1990' cassette scudding around somewhere - he was pretty good. I'll have to check out my other cassettes and see what forgotten gems are there..... :)

Definitely worth digging out. Did you ever hear of him after that album came out? He did get a few brief articles in Kerrang but I think he pretty much disappeared after that. Maybe he joined a band or something?

IbanezDaemon - August 23, 2008 11:02 AM (GMT)
I googled this guy and he has a website. There's also material by him on youtube, should be worth a look. :)
