What are your guys thoughts on these two Metallica albums? I love them, Don't understand how people hate them the way they do.

yeah, I've got to agree with the J man, here. Metallica have not put out an album worth buying since 1991.

I think there were some great songs on those albums (Outlaw Torn)...but a LOT of filler too. If they had done one album with the best material, it would've been a different but good Metallica album...

I don't mind Metallica as a band but the load/reload albums are not metal as far as I'm concerned. The Memory Remains song on Reload reminds me of Charles and Eddie.

They're alright. Just not metal. It still sounds good imo. Even if they changed their identity of who they are. It's like the alternative rock version of Metallica. My favorite album of Metallica will always be Ride the Lightning. Best guitar solos on that album imo.

You know I have never really listened to them. I lost interest in Metallica after the black album. Although there are some great tunes on there, when Enter Sandman came out I remember thinking "shit, Metallica have turned into a f**king blues band", and Way too many "wow wooooow"s from Mr Hetfield.

Actually I think it's more like they stopped pretending to be something they weren't...the only guys in that band with real talent were Hetfield and Cliff. I don't think it's a coincidence things started going downhill shortly after Cliff died. And Mustaine's input was still very strong on the first two albums as well.
When you compare them to other thrash bands of that time, they just weren't up to par on a technical level. So they left that race and went on a more hard-rock direction, which fit Lars and Kirk much better.
Not to say they didn't write great songs, but there is a reason they spent so much time on each album. I remember Lars once admitting he never could play Dyers Eve all the way through. When you just put Metallica in a room and press record, the result is...St. Anger :ph43r:

It's a tough choice for a lot of bands. Stick to your guns or change your style.
people will criticize AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Yngwie Malmsteen for churning the same old thing for X number of years...yet Metallica will get similar criticism for changing their style and people will say “they should have stuck to being a thrash band”. either way you're gonna get critics.
I personally just find that Load/Reload are bit bland and boring.

Mets finest albums were RTL and MOP, after that they went downhill considerably imho although I liked bits of AJFA. Since the early 90's they've had some good 'moments' but terrible half hours. (I'm sure I've plagiarised my last comment from somewhere, think it was in relation to a comment made about a classical composer. ;) )

Ride the Lightening, kill 'em All and Master of Puppets are classics. Metallica ruined their legacy though.
