Title: Another recording

Steve5513 - May 28, 2010 02:44 PM (GMT)
Ignore the poll if you want... For some reason the button to create new topic isn't appearing for me so I had to make a poll :P

Anyway, this is another recording from me. This is a song I actually thought about... I'm not sure if I should call it finished yet so I thought I should get some feedback. Obviously there's no drummer or bassist since I have access to niether.

The guitar tone is kind of... harsh to my ears. That's because I put the mic waaaaaaaay to close to the amp.

Not bad.
The ending was kinda weird because it didn't sound like an ending to me.
What chords you was doing?

Steve5513 - May 29, 2010 03:55 PM (GMT)
First chord is D minor, then E Minor, then C.

After that it goes to E minor bar chord at the 7th fret, then a Dsus2 then a Csus2, then Bsus2 then A#sus2. After that is a chord that I have no idea what it's called but I'll tab it for ya

e|1
b|1
g|0
d|3
a|3
e|X

After that, the next chord is played like this, I have no idea what it's called though.

G|0
D|2
A|3

First start that on the 10th fret A string, then 8th, then 6th, then 4th. Then the ending is that same chord but starting on the third fret, then the fith, ending with the 7th but as you can hear, don't go through the whole chord on the 7th because it sounds awful with the open G.

C maj Chord.

Steve5513 - May 29, 2010 05:02 PM (GMT)
Which one? :D

Anyway, I've been fiddling around and I'm sort of a quarter of the way through getting a proper ending that feels like an ending. From the ending of the first one I put up, it's gonna have a riff with distortion fade in, then a couple bits and then return back to the very first clean bit then fade out. Just not sure wether or not to have a solo... Depends if I can come up with one that I think suits the song.

IbanezDaemon - May 29, 2010 05:55 PM (GMT)
E|------------------
B|-------------------
G|---0----------------
D|---2-----------------
A|---3-------------------
E|-----------------------

Notes are C,E,G, 1-3-5. CMajor. I'm assuming thats what you mean by

G|0
D|2
A|3

The other is Csus4.

Just listened to the piece. Some nice ideas there Steve. You gotta get some of those chord changes a bit smoother though, sounds like your slightly hesitating between some of the changes. Anyhooo.. I liked the general feel of the piece, reminds me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it.

What set up are you using here, still playing the Jackson mate? You're using a bit of Chorus on that, right?

Oh Yeah, I voted for Army of Darkness, LMFAO at that.

Steve5513 - May 29, 2010 07:51 PM (GMT)
Yup, still using the Jackson. The chorus is a chorus and reverb effect on my amp, recorded into some 15 pound USB mic into Audacity.

Your right about the chord changes. It was the Bar chords... I have never been able to go into bar chords smoothly, gotta practice 'em more for sure.

IbanezDaemon - May 29, 2010 08:16 PM (GMT)
For me to begin with changing to bar chords was always simple as opposed to quick shifts on open chords if you like, just takes a bit of practise but I'm one to be talking as I can't remember the last time I actually played a chord, any chord on the guitar.

I've always toyed with the idea of buying one of those DK2 Jackson guitars and modding the feck out of it. Can I ask what the Seymour Duncans are like in it? I find it a tad hard to believe that those SD's would be of the same quality as say a Seymour Duncan JB or Full shred for example. Opinions Steve??

Steve5513 - May 29, 2010 09:57 PM (GMT)
Well, DK2M has a JB in the bridge: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/dk-2m/69487 (Cheapest place to get one unless you can get it cheaper on Ebay maybe?) I have the transparent black finish on mine and it looks awesome, so look out for one with that finish (Though I ALMOST went with a white finish since thats looks awesome too)

Anyway, I can't much compare to other pickups since the only other pickups I've used on the two other guitars I have owned are the Dimebucker (Awful P'ups btw those Dimebuckers) and some shitty ones in some 50 pound strat. Even so, I really like how the thing sounds going through my amp, the recordings aren't as good as what it does sound on my amp because my mic sucks.

The middle position on the toggle switch is my favourite for soloing, and the neck position gives a really fat sound.

IbanezDaemon - May 29, 2010 10:18 PM (GMT)
Cool Steve. Really a JB in the bridge?? That's a great pickup, didn't think a mid range guitar would sport one of those tbh. I gotta read up more I suppose.

I'd consider one though I'm gasing for another Ibanez J Custom at the mo. Have £900 in the kitty for a new guitar but it depends if something interesting pops up on the bay. I prefer Ibanez necks to Jacksons though as I need all the help I can get when it comes to playing fast, Har!! Har!! Har!!

Steve5513 - May 29, 2010 10:49 PM (GMT)
I've always wanted a Carvin guitar myself... Jason Beckers Carvin was the sexiest guitar I've ever seen. I really wish the DK2M had a set neck, I always have trouble when it comes to like the 19th fret upwards on the higher strings unless I'm sitting down. I would wear my guitar higher but it feels really weird to me :P

IbanezDaemon - May 29, 2010 11:14 PM (GMT)
Start savng dude, Carvin will build one to your spec basically.

Steve5513 - May 29, 2010 11:39 PM (GMT)
No need...

I'll just get famous and get 'em to sponsor me and give me free gear. :D lol

IbanezDaemon - May 29, 2010 11:46 PM (GMT)
Seriously Steve, like me , we're gonna be saving! ;)

Muramasa - May 31, 2010 08:20 PM (GMT)

I think it's a very good idea for a song.

It's also a good backing track to play over, until the middle section when you play "ad libitum" (no tempo).
