Title: Dragon's Kiss Album

Brought out at the same time as Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn, Dragon's Kiss was Marty Friedman's first solo instrumental album. Fellow Cacophony guitarist Jason guested on a few solo spots with Marty handling all Bass guitar duties as well. Drums were provided by the excellent Dean Castronovo.

This album for me had a more reserved approach as opposed to Jason's Perpetual Burn album but still features some teriffic guitar work and great instrumental song writing as well as Marty's excellent use of exotic/eastern scales. A great album and one that I'll rate at 10/10.

I prefere this album to Perpetual Burn by Becker and have played it so many times over the years. I don't think there is a note out of place and as ID says is more reserved than Beckers solo album but because of this sounds more mature to my ears. The instrumental writing is fantastic and the mixing and guitar and drum sounds have real power as opposed to a lot of cacophony stuff that sounds a bit tiny IMO. Defo 10/10

I also prefer it over "Perpetual Burn". Mainly that he likes to experiment with more exotic scales and be more melodic with it. 9/10 for me.

I know a guy who has the old private lessons of Marty demonstrating Saturation Point off this album.

I really love this album. It's a great album for a first solo album. Dragon Mistress is more favorite. Marty's phrasing and vibrato is great and that what made the album sound good. Also the exotic scales.

I think some of the best electric guitar solos can be found here; but it is not only the solos, but the dark ambience and intensity of the songs what really captured me. Maybe exotic scales contributed to create that sense of "chaos", darkness or whatever it is; his very fast playing and well inspired songs give the album lots of intensity, so I like to hear it at once rather that separated songs. Awesome drums but the bass is rather conservative... Anyway, I'll give it a 10.

I agree - this album definately has a consistent theme or vibe about it. Well put Muramasa.

My personal favorite from Marty! 10/10
I also give a 10 to Scenes and Introduction...that guy is a rare genius!

I think Perpetual Burn is so great BECAUSE of the notes that are apparently out of place and the unexpected directions of the songs. In Saturation Point every note is clean and perfect. I absolutely love both albums, but Becker's is the work of a genius.

I bought both albums when they came out and for some reason I had higher expectations of the Dragon's Kiss album but it was Perpetual Burn that surprised me most. Still no denying that Dragons Kiss is a great album. Been a while since I listened to it so must give it a spin.

I love both albums but i thought Perpetual was just an absolute masterpiece with the amazing technique and songwriting. But i will say that Dragons Kiss is better when it comes to the variety that the album has to offer. :D :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r:
