Title: Favourite Scale and the one you most often use?

My favourite scale is the pentatonic scale. Easy to learn, easy to remember and my favourite sound.
Also the one I use most often in leads.

The chromatic scale. Durr, yeah!
No, but really. I have no idea which scales I use more than not, but I abuse chromatics a lot.

Chromatics are fun to add in as passing notes in a run.

Phrygian Dominant for me, fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale.

Major, Harmonic Minor, and Natural Minor for me. Pentatonic gets overplayed imo. Makes me like it less. It's also not as melodic. It's good in small doses but if that is all the band knows, it's lame.

Melodic minor scale for me at the moment.

A dorian mode often with a major 7th, I think it's a bebop scale. Maybe I overplay it lately... This other is one of my favourites, wich I learned when I started playing so I use it a lot, and has various names: "Oriental scale", "Arabic scale", "Flamenco scale"...
--------------------------------------------------------------------0 - 1 - 4 - (5)
----------------------------------------------------- 0 - 1 - 4 - (5) - (6)
----------------------------------------- 1 - 2 (4) (5)
------------------------ 1 - 2 - 3
------------0 - 2 - 3
0 - 1 - 4
From E, its like a phrigian dominant but with a 7 instead of a b7: that will make things easier.
You can also change the 4 for a #4, but maybe it's too weird...!

I like playing in natural minor but with some odd notes and chromatics added(my biggest influence is marty friedman!).

thats cool dude, Are you into the the old marty or the new marty stuff?
Personally i think the stuff he did with Becker was phenomenal.
(of course Becker was beyond phenomenal).
Great to have you as a member and grats on the first post (i'm new here myself).
And back to the topic im nearly always using the harmonic minor scale, I'm trying to get away from that right now though. I play alot of sweep arpeggios.

I use a lot of other scales but don't know which they are(I'm self taught). But I like the hirajoshi scale aswell. So I just go where my fingers take me.

I've been playing a lot of melodic major stuff lately, and I can't get enough of the major pentatonic, but not in a "Der der, country licks der der" kinda way, but I love making awesome Chinese melodies out of it. Mix some basic major arpeggio shapes with some major licks with some major pentatonic Chinese shit, you got yourself a good time.
