I just saw Symphony X on Friday at the Opera House in Toronto with some friends, one of them being ACDC51502112, from the forum. I will give you a bit of a review.
First we met a fellow fan on the way to the show who accompanied us for the night. The two opening bands I had never heard before but they were fantastic, first to go on was Into Eternity (Canadian), whom played progressive metal, you could even saw they had a neo-classical touch to them. Fantastic guitar work and what really blew me away was the vocalist... ever heard of that 80s band nitro? with Michael Angelo Batio, and that crazy ass singer who broke glass by hiting the frequency of the glass? This singer in Into Eternity, hit notes I didn't think were humanly possible, it totally blew me away... sitting in the pit second row with my jaw dropped.
Anyways, the next band was Epica. They were absolutely fantastic, the singer was a chick with some good pipes. They were symphonic metal (Dutch). They had some growls, which I'm not usually a fan of but I kinda enjoyed them from this band. BTW both of the opening bands had two guitarists.
Finally, after a long wait Symphony X came on. Michael Romeo was fantastic as usually. I was right in front of him the whole time, the highlights where his improvised solo in the middle of the set (all the members had a bit of a solo) and of course Sea of Lies. By the end I had caught two picks that he threw! and I got the Romeo's set list from the floor in front of him after the show. So thats two picks and a set list. I gave one of the picks to my buddy as its a thing we kinda do when one of us catches two or more of them.
Ok, now the show is done, people are leaving, and we stay around for a good two hours talking to the bands. Unfortunately, Symphony X didn't come out, but the two opening bands did. We talked to the guitarists about gear, technique, theory, for a good while and got all their autographs.
So, It was now 2:00 AM and we started home, and eventually got home to bed at about 3:30 since we live outside the city. Over all it was a great show and I particularly liked it because of the small venue. I was not used to small venues as I usually see Iron Maiden and such at huge arenas. From now on I think I am going to target the small shows because they are just so much better.
Great band. I'm going to see them in Houston in a couple weeks. Looking forward to it. :)
Cool...Symphony x is great band, and Romeo is really great guitarist.I like his style very much.
Its good you can go to concerts of symphony x,i don't think i'll see them live ever.
ya dude it was F'in amazing, just the little girls at the front of the pit who were complaining about being crushed pissed me off, cause honestly wtf do you expect?
