I guess both. I usually use my index when I'm tapping harmonics.

All of them. Depends on the situation.
For single taps here and there I use any finger that's free at the moment. Most of the time that is the middle finger.

I learned to tap with my index finger and always stuck with that. I've been meaning to tap with my middle finger for years but have never got round to it. I suppose it makes more sense to use the middle finger because if you use your index finger it means you have to get your pick out of the way for a while, still, the index finger method has worked pretty well for EVH and Paul Gilbert over the years.

Middle finger seems to be best - great for slides between taps and in any direction !! Also great for lightning quick return to picking and harmonic-type runs. Gary Moore, George Lynch at their peak etc.

For single taps, I use my middle, but when doing anything with taping chords or w/e ill use more fingers.

I tap with my middle and ring fingers when doing the typical shred type tapping so that I can still keep the pick in its usual home. Obviously for clean Satrianiesque stuff it is possible to use all fingers as you don't have to hold a pick.

Middle Finger so i can switch back to pick really fast.

Middle and ring if I'm playing with a pick.

Oh yeah forgot to say that I use the edge of my pick to tap with sometimes.

I do this very rarely due to the piercing sound. I just don't like it.
Now, if I was looking for that exact sound in some situation...

Use both,but mostly middle

I like to use the pick and the middle finger. I think the pick adds a brighter tone and more volume.
