Swap the stock pickups on RG1570 for something else and it's probably one of the highest-end six stringers provided by Ibanez.

PGM FTW!!! Those 1570's are damn good guitars but as Acousolysis says the pups aren't great. The PGM is loaded with proper DiMarzio's so my vote goes to it.

I'd go with the PGM for sure.

RG1570, pups are easy to change so it's never a factor for me anymore.

Is it true that hardtail/fixed bridges have more sustain and are generally better sounding?
Hurricane Kid - January 18, 2010 10:16 AM (GMT)
Out of the two I would go for the RG and swap out the pups. Hardtails should have more sustain, but personally I like a shred guitar to have a trem system.
IbanezDaemon - January 18, 2010 01:45 PM (GMT)
Yep, hardtails supposedly do produce more sustain and better tone quality. It's also true that a locking nut will affect tone as well because the headstock plays a big part in a guitars resonance but I've never heard anything wrong with Steve Vai's tone. :P
SloTech - January 19, 2010 10:33 AM (GMT)
I guess it's the angle of least resistance, each angle created between one string end and the other string end depletes sustain and resonance - so the best idea would be for a hardtail, zero fret, headless guitar with a denser - type of wood body - see below ???

Later.

Ooh wow cant believe there is thread like this... i was thinking of selling my RG1570 (with Seymour Duncan JB-4) just so i can get the PGM301
would u say there is no difference (as in feel/playability) between the RG n PGM?!
or would u guys recommend the PGM401 instead...
Thanks!
Hurricane Kid - January 19, 2010 04:27 PM (GMT)
I dare say that if it comes down to actually buying a PGM you would have to play one yourself. My preference was a theoretical one rather than based on actually comparing the two playability wise. Playability may be a subjective thing based on your own preferences IMO.

BTW welcome to the forum chicouk! :D

I don't think there would be much difference in terms of feel/playability as the neck dimensions on all those guitars would be similar ie Wizard, Super Wizard and PGM Prestige. If you already have Seymour Duncan's in your 1570 you would not really be upgrading by buying a PGM301.
I'm pretty sure that the 401is now a good bit more expensive than what you could pick up a 301 for with the main difference being the pickups.

If your RG1570 is in good condition and you've upgraded the pickups on it, there's no point in swapping it. Only if you don't like a floating bridge and want a fixed one, should you get the Gilbert model (it has one if I remember correctly).

lol thanks for warm welcome...
it is just so hard to find a shop in the UK where they have PGM to try out...
it is so expensive and rare over here
well tell u the truth, my guitar used to be a RG370 but i have changed the neck to a RG1570 and the pickups...
it is quite nice but i dont think it is setup properly...when the tuning is standard Eb, it is really nice and easy to play.. but when it is set to standard E, the floyd rose tremelo is pointing up at an angle and it is quite hard to play...sigh i dunno lol

Oh... I completely forgot to welcome you. Doing that now!
Anyways, changing the tuning on a floating bridge can cause that. The intonation may suffer from it. You ought to get the guitar checked professionally (unless you can do it yourself)!
