Title: Classical Guitarists Around?

Devon8822 - April 4, 2008 01:52 AM (GMT)
I am very curious to know if there are currently any other classical guitarists at the forum? I know that acdc51502112 has recently taken it up, but are there any others? If there are I have some great resources I could post, otherwise I will spare you guys.

I think devon means more finger picking accustic classical, but from the reaction, I'm guessing him and I are the only ones...

I am mostly a classical guitarist, although I play electric guitar in a death metal band, I am a trained classical playing, and it is my favorite thing to play!

Thats awesome, we will have a lot to talk about. Are you a member at the Delcamp, classical guitar forum?

I would be interested in it, I love classical music after all. The problem is I totally suck at fingerpicking  I would appreciate any resources you guys may have though!

muahaha well i guess i can now count myself among your ranks classical friends. I learned the whole first part to Ronda Alla Turca, i know its kind of easy, but i figured it was a good starter piece and i have it up to about 97% efficiency after only a couple hours. im stoked :) i am going to get the rest of the piece tonight and probably spend the rest of the week learning the crazy hard parts :):) just wanted to drop by and toot my own horn a little :)

TOOT TOOT ahhhhhhhhhh

haha great! I think playing traditional classical music really helps for neo-classical metal.

i would say for any form of music, because you need to learned what has been done, so you can screw with it and make your own style.

i agree :) as a guitarist i dont really spend alot of time learning other peoples stuff mostly for the simple reason of me losing interest once i have learned the part or parts i want. through doing this tho, i have found that when i go and just play or jam with myself, i feel much more comfortable in playing this or that then switching and going to someother thing, and figuring out how to get them to go together, or apply what i skill i learned from one and try it to another. i do see the value of learning full songs and i do this from time to time, but im a pieces guy... what can i say :)

I'll probably attend a school or some place to study classical guitar and music at once I'm through high school and my military service. Too bad that's at least 2 years beyond here.

just don't get shot.

Acousolysis - October 14, 2008 01:14 PM (GMT)
Hahaha. Don't get me wrong - the Finnish military service is like a big playground nowadays.

DatM - January 19, 2009 01:56 AM (GMT)
I also play classical guitar. Unforunately I don't own a classical guitar at the moment, so I haven't practiced in a really long time :(

acdc51502112 - January 19, 2009 06:28 AM (GMT)
get on that man, i respect anyone who can really "play" classical guitar, well any instrument lol.

sebastian salinas - February 3, 2009 05:50 PM (GMT)
I play classical but im not very good, i love more electric, but study for seven years in local college classical, did wonders for me, many confidence and technique especially left hand, also learn to read ise very usefull for trasncribe and study,
check out KAZUHITO YAMASHITA, DAVID RUSSEL, JOHN WILLIAMS, freaking amazing classical player really insane

I'd love to play Classical guitar but I'd really love to learn and play Flamenco guitar. It's darker and more fiery IMO. Only problem is you have to grow the nails on your picking hand to play this style and that would interfere with rock guitar playing. :(

sebastian salinas - February 3, 2009 08:47 PM (GMT)
actually in classical guitar strictly, you also hace to grow your nails, to produce the right tone, i have large nails in my right hands and i have no problems even doing right hand tapping, also i love flamenco is much obscure and furious, in fact have a lot in comun with neoclassical, i think if paco de lucia play a electric overdriven guitar, many of the licks and scales sound like yngwie/prhigian/harmonic minor flavour,
i dig paco de lucia, also vicente amigo, tomatito all from spain.

Agreed. I love those darker sounding scales i.e Phrygian, harmonic Minor. I also use Hungarian Gypsy, Persian and Oriental scales which I really like.

ur right, I am comfortable with long nails but I cannot tap

You don't have to let your nails grow too long to play classical. It depends on the shape of your fingers and nails, and the tone you're after. More nail means more attack.

My nails barely reach the tips of my fingers. Anything more and I don't like the feel or the sound. This way I get most of the tone from the finger and the nail gives just enough bite to the sound.
