Title: Baroque Pop

I think this idea is what led to neo-classical metal. Here is the wikipedia about it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baroque_pop I'm not sure if this fits here or other music but I think it fits here as it has a similar formula. More to do with the instruments used rather than the scales used. But the fusion idea was started back in the 60's.

An interesting read. I might check out some of the bands listed in that wikpedia article.

Same here. That Beach Boys - Pet Sounds sounds a lot different than the rest of their music. Also the Moody Blues I'm digging. I'm going to put a playlist on youtube for Baroque Pop. Drop by to see updates.

Its not difficult to see the progression to the classical influence in metal. I mean just after a lot of those bands mentioned were out Deep Purple took the classical inspired to a heavier level. Just check out the keyboard solo in 'Highway Star'.

I assumed everyone knew about that tune. But the time before that gets ignored. Hear are my favorite cd's of Baroque Pop.
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (Totally different from their early period)
Zombies - Odessey and Oracle (underrated gem)
Beatles - Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour. (To a lesser extent Revolver and White Album)
Love - Forever Changes.
Brian Wilson - Smile
Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed
Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn (See Matilda Mother)
And here is a great amazon search for Baroque Pop.

Yeah I was pretty sure everyone had heard that song too. I was just sort of saying that Deep Purple were some of the linkage and development between the baroque pop side of the late 60s and the classically inspired metal of the 70s as Purple were more pop rock orientated in their earlier days.

Yeah pop in general eventually led to heavier sounds. I would say Black Sabbath was the first metal band. It took 3 years from that to get neo-classical metal. Deep Purple was mostly a blues based metal band but that one song definitely had a classical influence to it. Uli Jon Roth with the Scorpions did even more neo-classical metal. Then you got Ozzy with Randy Rhoads adding more to it. And finally a guitarist totally devoted to neo-classical metal. Do I have to say his name? :D
