Title: Tornado of Soul solo

Bethrezen - November 1, 2009 02:40 PM (GMT)
Hi, I'm new to this forum and I play the guitar for 3 years.
I'm currently working on Marty Friedman and I'm stuck at Tornado of Souls. At the lick which goes on like:
16po10------10--16po10--16po10------16po10 16po10------17po10.....
----------12--------------------------12---------------------12..................
My fingers hardly reach for 16-17 and leagto at that speed completely kills the melody. I can do it exactly note to note but there's noise coming from B and a horrible sound from the legatos because it's so far away. Do you have any tips how to slove this?
Thanks

(p.s. Does anyone have The Ninja tabs by Cacophony (Including solo)? I really want to learn it)

Sounds like you need to work on some finger stretching exercises plus muting techniques. It's important to also develop a lot of strength in your pinky to play the excerpt that you posted.

I second IbanezDaemon. Alternatively, you could try tapping the 17th. Nobody's telling you to play the solo the way someone else did - make it yours!

Yeah I agree with them. Also try looking at the way others play that part. Marty favors some of the videos that play that solo.
This guy prob the best at covering it.

I did a thread on muting.

Pay attention to your left hand and arm. Perhpas there's a position where the stretch would be easier. Bringing the thumb down lower, for example.

It is quite a stretch though, don't hurt yourself trying to do something you're not ready for.

These are types of things where a good teacher can really help.
