Any of you guys own acoustic guitars. What sort of stuff do you play on them? Post some pics of them hombres!
Can't play them to be honest with you. Hate not being able to get past the 12th fret and beyond easily. I used to own one years upon years ago that I used to warm up on. Then when you lifted the electric guitar you felt as if you were really gunning it. The best one I played was, well a semi acoustic, that I was a middle man in a deal for. I knew a session guitarist who was selling one and also a guy who was looking one. Seller gave it to me to take to the buyer. I held onto it for a couple of days while the deal was done by phone. It was a Gibson Chet Atkins. Really liked that. Thin bodied semi with a Classical/flat board on it and nylon strings. I think Knopfler played one on Private Investigations. Awesome guitar and I liked the thinner body. Just more comfortable to play.

Never liked 'em. As ID said, it's a pain not easily being able to get past the 12th fret and i never liked how you have to drag your picking hands arm over it.
I love acoustics...
Nylon strings are more comfortable to play, while iron strings make a brighter tone easily. I prefeer nylon strings: it sounds more traditional, being cool for flamenco and bossa, for exemple.
I always tried to play electric guitar the 50% of my time and to play acoustic the other 50%: I would recommend it if you feel like having no new ideas with your guitar.
In my country the more than the 90% of acoustic guitars have nylon strings, being more easy to use the left hand but harder to use the right hand.
I started this thread a while back as I had aquired a cheap Freshman acoustic. I have to say that it has been a great help to my overall guitar playing skills having an acoustic in the living room. Mainly because it is so convenient to just pick up and play without having to plug into something. Also good for strengthening fingers - try doing your legato exercises on an acoustic instead - it's a real work out.
Al Di Meola's acoustic stuff usually gives me the inspiration to try a bit of shredding on the acoustic but it aint easy. Maybe I'll try some lighter strings when it needs a new set.
